Singer/Songwriter Aprylle Gilbert Runs Coast to Coast on US Route 6 To Raise Money for Kids; Follow Her Progress
U.S. Route 6 Coast-to-Coast for Kids
Follow one woman’s courageous fund raising event for disadvantaged youth as she runs from coast
to coast along the entire length of historic Route 6 beginning in Long Beach, CA and ending in
Provincetown, MA.
Aprylle Gilbert is an extreme-distance endurance runner from the San Francisco Bay
area. She is best known as a singer-song writer and author, one of the top folk-rock musicians in the Bay
Area.
After an May 7, 2015 Hollywood kick-off concert at Hollywood House of Blues, Gilbert will launch a national
charity fund-raising event. Beginning in Long Beach on May 11, 2015, Gilbert’s Charity Challenge Run will
traverse the entire 3,652 miles of historic (old) Route 6, running 30-50 miles per day.
Aprylle is passionate about raising awareness (and money) for disadvantaged young people. Aprylle’s Coastto-
Coast for Kids run was conceived as a way of supporting youth activism by helping Washington United
Youth Center in San Jose improve their after-school programs that build confidence, self-esteem and
leadership skills in local, underserved kids. She encourages “Public Charities” along the 6 to use this special
event to help their own local youth organizations.
Since then, the vision has matured into a way of building a network for community activism across the nation
by challenging like-minded athletes to raise money for local charities by running with Aprylle for a portion of
the distance. However, she will slow to a walk for those families with children who would like to join her.
Coast-to-Coast for Kids is planned in cooperation with the U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association (www.route6tour.com) and
Catholic Charities’ Washington United Youth Center, San Jose, CA. (www.CatholicCharitiesSCC.org/washingtonunitied-
youth-center).
