Western Wildfires Effect US Route 6 - Utah

The Coal Hollow Fire, burning 15 miles southeast of Spanish Fork, forced officials to close U.S. Highway 6 and evacuate Diamond Fork Canyon Sunday evening.
U.S. Highway 6 is closed in both directions from Diamond Fork Road to Tucker, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon tweeted. Officials expect the road to remain closed through the night.
Officials also evacuated Diamond Fork Canyon after the fire crossed Highway 6. The evacuations are expected to last until at least Monday, Cannon said.

News of US Route 6 is gathering steam in many of the 14 States through which the 3,204 mile road passes (formerly 3, 652). Here's the latest from Ohio:

"Gary Hunter, executive director of the nonprofit Ohio U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association, spoke to a group of 30 people Monday at Birchard Library about the road and efforts made by his group to publicize U.S. 6 and the communities connected by the highway."

US Route 6 was deemed "Grand Army of the Republic Highway" in 1953. Forgotten for so long, there seems to be new interest in its designation, as reported in THIS Desert News Utah article.

Goat Trail (Route 6) Along the Hudson River in NY Closed for Repairs this Week

FYI From the Local Patch to All Route 6 Travelers

The Goat Trail, also known as Bear Mountain Bridge Road, which is also both US Route 6 and State Route 202, will be closed Tuesday through Thursday. Crews will be performing maintenance on the narrow, twisting road between Route 9D (at the Bear Mountain Bridge) and Route 9 (Annsville Circle).

The work is scheduled to be done from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily July 18 - 20, 2017. 
Follow the posted detour, but expect delays and plan accordingly.
