From Provincetown MA Tourism Office: Help Celebrate the End of Aprylle's Route 6 Run on Tuesday September 15 at Pilgrim's Landing Park

RUNNER TO CONCLUDE COAST-TO-COAST CHARITY RUN IN PROVINCETOWN

America's First Destination will be Aprylle Gilbert's final at the finish line in Pilgrims' First Landing Park

PROVINCETOWN, Mass. - Endurance runner and musician Aprylle Gilbert will finish her historic run along famed U.S. Route 6 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Pilgrims' First Landing Park in Provincetown. The coast-to coast run is in support of her charity program, "Coast to Coast for Kids," supporting disadvantaged children in San Jose, Calif.

Gilbert's run began on May 11, 2015, in Bishop, Calif. and stretches 3,652 miles to Provincetown, where U.S. Route 6 ends. She runs 30-40 miles each day and has endured challenging terrains and climates including the deserts in California, Nevada and Utah and mountain regions in Colorado, although she says she finds comfort in the changing landscapes.

Gilbert has traveled with her friend and support driver, Jose Reyes, with help from a network of volunteers and the Route 6 Tourist Association. She doesn't use any money from the charity fund and credits the volunteers who have offered her housing in small towns along the way. As a reward for those who are sponsoring the run, donors receive gifts of Gilbert's CDs and her book. One-hundred percent of contributions are donated to charity.

To honor Gilbert, the Board of Selectmen in the Town of Provincetown, in the County of Barnstable of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, has proclaimed Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, as Aprylle Gilbert Day in the Town of Provincetown and encourages citizens to express their gratitude and to pay tribute on this day.

Pilgrims' First Landing Park commemorates the 102 Pilgrims on the Mayflower whose first landing in the New World was at the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown in 1620. Plans are underway to commemorate the 400th landing along with the signing of the Mayflower Compact in Provincetown Harbor, a document giving rise to a nation and American Democracy.
