Gilbert conquers Colorado on coast-to-coast run |
WRITTEN BY HOLYOKE ENTERPRISE |
Holyoke was a welcome sight for extreme distance runner Aprylle Gilbert because it meant she had conquered Colorado, one of the hardest stretches of her run across the United States along historic Route 6.
Holyoke Mayor Orville Tonsing, pictured second from left, presents Gilbert with a commemorative Holyoke coin and pin as she passes through town Monday, July 6. Also welcoming her are Holyoke Chamber of Commerce executive director Mary Tomky, at left; Colorado U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association executive director Ken Oltjenbruns, at right; and Holyoke City Council member John Schneider and Holyoke Enterprise managing editor Darci Tomky, not pictured.
Gilbert and her support driver enjoyed a rest and Holyoke’s hospitality while staying with hosts Steve and Cherrie Brown a couple nights this week before heading into Nebraska.
