Gilbert's run began on May 11, 2015, in Bishop, Calif. and stretches 3,652 miles to Provincetown, where U.S. Route 6 ends. She runs 30-40 miles each day and has endured challenging terrains and climates including the deserts in California, Nevada and Utah and mountain regions in Colorado, although she says she finds comfort in the changing landscapes.
To honor Gilbert, the Board of Selectmen in the Town of Provincetown, in the County of Barnstable of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, has proclaimed Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, as Aprylle Gilbert Day in the Town of Provincetown and encourages citizens to express their gratitude and to pay tribute on this day.
